Lost a filling or crown? We can see you this weekend

A crown that came off while eating or a filling that fell out leaves the tooth exposed. Bring the crown if you have it. Open Friday to Sunday.

Why it is worth coming in soon

When a filling or crown comes out, the tooth underneath is exposed. It may be sensitive to air, hot and cold, and it is easier to chip or decay. Sometimes the filling came out because there is new decay underneath it. Getting it covered quickly protects the tooth and can keep a simple fix from turning into a bigger one.

What to do right now

How we fix it

After the $99 emergency exam and X-ray, the dentist checks the tooth and the crown. If the crown and tooth are in good shape, re-cementing it may be all you need. If there is decay or the crown no longer fits, we can place a temporary restoration to protect the tooth and set up a permanent fix. Lost fillings can often be replaced or temporarily restored the same day. Everything is quoted before we start.

If the tooth broke along with the filling, see broken tooth. If the tooth is throbbing or the gum is swollen, see toothache or abscess and swelling.

Crowns from another dentist

You do not need to be our patient, and it does not matter who made your crown. We see many people on weekends whose regular dentist is closed. We can get you comfortable now and you can follow up with your own dentist afterward if you prefer.

What a visit looks like

Please call (215) 357-6241 before you head over, or use the online booking link, so we can have a chair ready. Every emergency visit starts with a $99 exam and X-ray. The dentist looks at the tooth, explains what is causing the problem in plain language, and quotes any treatment before anything starts. Same-day options in the office include extractions, root canals and temporary restorations. If something needs a specialist or a lab, the goal is to get you comfortable today and set up the next step.

Bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card if you have one, and a list of the medications you take. We are out of network, but our billing coordinator files your claim as a courtesy and can estimate your coverage before treatment. Cherry and CareCredit financing are available, and we take all major cards.

Some things need a hospital, not a dentist

Go to the emergency room or call 911 instead of calling us if you have any of these:

  • Facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing
  • Swelling that is closing your eye, or spreading down your neck
  • A fever with facial swelling
  • A possible broken jaw, or a jaw you cannot close
  • Bleeding that will not stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure

A dental infection that reaches the airway is life threatening. If you are unsure, go to the hospital.

Questions

Can you put my crown back on?

Often, yes, if the crown and the tooth underneath are in good condition. Bring the crown with you.

Is a lost filling an emergency?

It is not usually dangerous, but the tooth is exposed and can become sensitive or break. Having it covered soon is a good idea, especially if it hurts.

Can I glue the crown back on myself?

Do not use household glue. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can hold you over until your visit.

How much does it cost?

The emergency exam and X-ray is $99. Re-cementing or other treatment is quoted before we start.
